COVID-19 Pandemic Event Visa (subclass 408)

COVID-19 Pandemic Event Visa (Subclass 408) allows you to remain in Australia temporarily if you are unable to depart due to the COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions, and you have no other visa options, or if you work in a critical sector.
This visa is valid for up to 12 months for those employed in a critical sector, and up to 3 months for those not employed in a critical sector.

COVID-19 Pandemic Event visa has two streams:

  • Employment in a Critical Sector
  • Visa of Last Resort

For the employment in a critical sector pathway, you must:

  • at the time of your application, hold a temporary visa that expires within the next 90 days, or have previously held a temporary visa that expired within the last 28 days, and
  • not be able to apply for any other temporary visa in Australia
  • be employed by (or have an offer of employment from) an employer in one of the following critical sectors: aged care; agriculture; child care; disability care; food processing; or health care
  • and meet other requirements

For the last resort visa, you must:

  • be unable to depart Australia due to the COVID-19 Pandemic travel restrictions
  • at the time of your application, hold a temporary visa that expires within the next 28 days or have previously held a temporary visa that expired within the last 28 days
  • not be able to apply for any other temporary visa in Australia.
